The Best Outdoor Wedding Venues in Essex (From a Videographer’s Point of View)

There’s Something About Essex Light…

Some counties just have that glow. Essex is one of them.

Maybe it’s the wide skies, or the way the light hits at golden hour. Maybe it’s the mix of timeless manor houses and open countryside. But whatever it is, Essex offers some of the most visually stunning outdoor wedding venues I’ve ever filmed at—and I’ve filmed all over the UK and Europe.

Now, this isn’t just another roundup of venues lifted from Google. These are places I’ve worked at, walked through, and filmed in—while capturing real weddings for real couples.

So if you’re dreaming of a garden ceremony, a sunset drinks reception, or an outdoor space that photographs and films as beautifully as it feels in person, these venues are the ones I recommend without hesitation.

Let’s start with one of the most intimate hidden gems in Essex.

That Amazing Place – Intimate, Natural, and Unplugged

Liah & Gary’s wedding at That Amazing Place was everything you’d want from an outdoor ceremony: relaxed, unplugged, and heartfelt.

The ceremony took place in the garden, with rows of guests surrounded by trees and birdsong. No phones out. No distractions. Just real emotion, clean audio, and uninterrupted visuals—a dream setup from a videographer’s perspective.

Liah walked down the aisle to the sound of a live pianist, and you could actually hear the music swell as she approached. That kind of natural ambiance—where you can hear the wind in the leaves and the quiet catch of breath during the vows—is what brings a wedding film to life.

Post-ceremony, the guests spilled onto the lawns for champagne and relaxed group photos while we drifted through the crowd capturing natural laughter and quiet conversations. No posing, no redos. Just the kind of real moments that replay beautifully on screen.

Why it films so well:

  • Clear garden ceremony layout
  • Soft, directional light (even mid-day)
  • Minimal background noise and visual clutter
  • Open grounds perfect for natural couple portraits and drone coverage

Blake Hall – Countryside Views and Character in Every Frame

If you’re after a venue that balances countryside charm with versatility, Blake Hall nails it. The grounds offer wide, open views, mature trees, and rustic architecture—all of which film beautifully from both ground level and the air.

Dominique & Reiss chose Blake Hall for its relaxed atmosphere and natural setting. Their ceremony took place outdoors on the lawn, with the barn behind them and fields stretching out beyond. But the standout moment? Their little boy, dressed smartly and slightly confused, walking down the aisle as ring bearer. It wasn’t rehearsed. It wasn’t perfect. And that’s what made it unforgettable.

The beauty of Blake Hall lies in how it moves with the day. Prep can happen on-site in their converted stables, with natural light pouring through big windows. Ceremonies flow easily into receptions without a fuss. And when the sun starts to dip in the evening? That’s your golden hour couple shoot right there—backlit, natural, and cinematic without trying too hard.

Why it films so well:

  • Open-air ceremony space with clean lines and natural light
  • Rolling countryside gives depth and movement to drone footage
  • Wood, stone, and greenery create rich colour tones
  • Spacious layout means we can film discreetly without feeling on top of the action

Hatfield Place – Elegance with Open Air Luxury

Some venues are naturally cinematic. Hatfield Place is one of them.

It’s elegant without being stuffy. Grand, but still warm. And for Charlotte & Jason’s wedding, it provided the perfect balance of stylish formality and relaxed garden vibes—ideal for storytelling through film.

Their day started with preparations in the light-filled Garden Suite, where Charlotte and her bridal party shared laughs and a few quiet moments before everything kicked off. The outdoor ceremony was set against manicured lawns and period architecture, with a soft breeze carrying the string quartet’s music. From a filming point of view, this gave us layers—movement, sound, and emotion all in one frame.

The space around Hatfield Place meant we could film wide, cinematic establishing shots, while also picking up close, unscripted moments without getting in the way. One of our favourite sequences came just after the ceremony—Charlotte and Jason, tucked to the side, toasting with Champagne while guests milled about just out of frame. It was private, real, and completely unposed.

Why it films so well:

  • Garden ceremony location with flattering afternoon light
  • Spacious grounds perfect for steady gimbal shots and audio clarity
  • Beautiful architectural framing for portraits and drone reveals
  • Seamless flow from prep to ceremony to reception, all on-site

Fennes – Grand, Romantic, and Surprisingly Intimate

Fennes has all the grandeur of a stately home—but it still manages to feel personal. That’s not easy to pull off when you’re hosting over 300 guests. But Esther & James did just that.

Their civil ceremony was held outside on the lawn, beneath a flower-adorned arch, with guests fanned out across white chairs and the manor as a backdrop. It was warm, emotional, and beautifully quiet—despite the numbers. From a videographer’s view, that setting was a dream. Clean symmetry, great sound, and natural depth of field with every shot.

One standout moment was the reading. A close friend of the couple stood at the front, reading from the Bible as a light breeze stirred the leaves. You could hear the emotion in his voice—and thanks to the mics we’d discreetly placed, so can Esther & James every time they watch it back.

And even with a big crowd, the flow of the grounds allowed space for intimate pockets of calm. Guests mingled in small clusters, speeches rolled into golden hour, and the edit came together like a well-paced feature film—heartfelt, cinematic, and never rushed.

Why it films so well:

  • Wide, symmetrical lawn for perfectly framed ceremony shots
  • Spacious layout means drone footage shines here
  • Soft golden light through trees in the afternoon
  • Great sound separation, even with larger crowds

Honourable Mentions – More Essex Gems Worth a Look

Essex is full of outdoor venues that film beautifully, each offering something a little different. Here are a few more we’ve had the pleasure of filming at—and would happily return to any day:

🎥 Gosfield Hall

A grand former palace with an elegant courtyard—perfect for those who want a regal setting with open-air charm. The architecture gives strong, symmetrical framing for wide shots, and the balcony is great for overhead ceremony footage.

🎥 Leez Priory

Set among mature trees and a tranquil lake, Leez offers multiple outdoor ceremony spots, including the iconic tower backdrop. Great for layered drone footage, slow-motion entrances, and soft evening light.

🎥 Houchins

Rustic, relaxed, and full of character. The outdoor setup here is ideal for capturing movement—like flowing dresses, lawn games, and guests laughing over garden cocktails. Brilliant light throughout the afternoon.

Each of these venues brings its own mood to a wedding film, but they all have one thing in common: they give your story space to breathe. And when a wedding film can breathe, it feels real.

Final Thoughts – Your Story Deserves the Right Backdrop

There’s something undeniably powerful about an outdoor wedding. Maybe it’s the light. Maybe it’s the freedom. Maybe it’s just the fact that people relax when they’re surrounded by nature.

Whatever the reason, if you’re dreaming of an Essex wedding that feels open, natural, and effortlessly cinematic, the venues in this guide are all worth a closer look.
