Hatfield Place Wedding Video – Timeless Moments in a Modern Country Setting
Where Elegance Meets Ease
Hatfield Place isn’t just another country house wedding venue—it’s a perfect marriage of timeless elegance and thoughtful design. Nestled in the heart of Essex, it offers couples a stunning backdrop for their day without the stiff formality you might expect from such a grand setting.
When I filmed Charlotte and Jason’s wedding here, it became clear straight away why this venue is so well-loved. Everything about Hatfield Place is built with flow in mind—natural light floods through the rooms, outdoor spaces are just a few steps away, and transitions between different parts of the day happen without a hitch.
As a wedding videographer, working at Hatfield Place means one very important thing: you can focus entirely on storytelling rather than logistics. And when your couple is as relaxed, joyful, and completely in the moment as Charlotte and Jason were, the result is a film that feels effortless, genuine, and full of life.
In this blog, I’ll walk you through what made their day so special to film—and why Hatfield Place might just be the perfect stage for telling your own wedding story.
A Venue That Supports the Story
One Location, Endless Possibilities
Filming a wedding across multiple locations often brings hidden challenges—tight timelines, travel stress, awkward lighting changes. Hatfield Place sweeps those issues off the table in one go.
From morning preparations to evening dancing, everything takes place within a few elegant steps. Charlotte got ready in the beautifully light Dressing Room, surrounded by her bridesmaids, as sunlight spilled through the tall sash windows. It created the kind of soft, natural atmosphere every videographer dreams of—no harsh spotlights, no staging needed. Just honest moments, beautifully lit.
Meanwhile, Jason prepped in one of the nearby rooms with his groomsmen, keeping things relaxed but excited. Because the spaces are so close together, I was able to capture moments from both sides without missing a beat—quiet final touches, emotional letters exchanged, and those nervous, excited glances at the clock.
🎥 Real Moment:
There was a particular moment during Charlotte’s prep—her mum helping her into her dress, both fighting back tears—that was filmed almost silently, relying purely on natural light and framing. It’s these tiny, heartfelt exchanges that define a wedding film, and Hatfield Place makes capturing them feel seamless.
Everything about the venue’s layout encourages a calm, unhurried build-up to the ceremony—and that energy stays with you through the entire day.

Ceremony Moments Worth Remembering
When it comes to capturing wedding ceremonies, two things make all the difference: light and emotion. At Hatfield Place, you get both in abundance.
Charlotte and Jason’s ceremony took place in the stunning main room, where huge windows flood the space with soft, natural light. Unlike many venues where harsh spotlights or dim corners can complicate things, here the light stayed even and flattering—perfect for cinematic filming without distraction.
The setup itself was simple and elegant. Rows of white chairs, subtle floral arrangements, and a wide aisle that gave a beautiful symmetry to the shots. From a videography perspective, it meant I could move fluidly through the space—framing Charlotte’s entrance, Jason’s first look, and their guests’ reactions without needing to reposition lights or block anyone’s view.
🎥 Real Moment:
The two guest readings during the ceremony brought real emotional weight. One was heartfelt and tearful, the other light-hearted and warmly funny. Because we discreetly placed a Zoom F2-BT recorder on the lectern and had backup lavaliers, we captured every nuance—every laugh, every shaky breath—with crystal-clear sound. Watching Charlotte and Jason beam at their readers while guests wiped away tears made for some of the most authentic, moving footage of the day.
And because the ceremony space at Hatfield Place feels both grand and intimate, the atmosphere stayed relaxed—letting everyone focus on the words, the looks, the meaning behind the moment.
It’s the kind of setting where the emotions lead—and the visuals simply follow.

Filming Through the Afternoon Flow
After the ceremony, the beauty of Hatfield Place really shines—because everything you need for a relaxed, joy-filled celebration is just a few steps away.
Charlotte and Jason’s drinks reception flowed seamlessly from the ceremony room out into the gardens. With the weather on their side, guests gathered on the manicured lawns, glasses in hand, soaking up the sunshine and easygoing atmosphere. It made moving between groups effortless—capturing natural interactions, laughter, and those spontaneous hugs without any need to stage or direct.
The transition to the wedding breakfast felt equally smooth. The reception space, bright and spacious with crisp white table settings, needed no heavy lighting or elaborate setups to look incredible on camera. We focused on capturing wide establishing shots before guests were called in, then discreetly shifted to handheld setups to catch those little moments—hand squeezes, glances across the room, the small details that would build into the full story later.
🎥 Real Moment:
The speeches were packed with emotion—especially the chief bridesmaid’s heartfelt yet hilariously candid toast. With a direct feed taken from the venue’s PA system via the Tascam X8 and backup recorders in place, we captured every word with perfect clarity. Being able to cut between the speaker’s laughter and Charlotte’s teary smiles, timed perfectly with the pacing of the speech, added a dynamic rhythm to the final film that just wouldn’t have been possible without such clean, emotional audio.
As golden hour approached, we stole a few moments with Charlotte and Jason for some couple shots across the gardens. Hatfield Place’s grounds provided endless backdrops—grand entrances, open lawns, and leafy walkways—that allowed them to relax and be themselves without feeling like they were “on camera.”
At Hatfield Place, every transition feels effortless—and that ease shines through in the finished wedding film.

Capturing the First Dance and Party Vibe
As the evening unfolded, the atmosphere at Hatfield Place shifted naturally from elegant to electric—and the transition was a joy to film.
Charlotte and Jason’s first dance took place in the main reception room, with the band setting up just a few feet away. Thanks to the generous floor space and warm, ambient lighting, we were able to film their dance without ever feeling intrusive. Using the DJI Ronin RS4 gimbal, I captured a wide, fluid pullback shot as they moved together under the fairy lights—giving the scene a cinematic sweep while keeping it intimate.
🎥 Real Moment:
The moment the beat dropped and guests rushed onto the dance floor was pure magic. There was no polite hesitation—just an explosion of energy, with Charlotte’s dad leading the charge. Switching quickly from gimbal to handheld shooting allowed us to dive right into the middle of the crowd, capturing real, unfiltered joy from every angle.
One of the advantages of Hatfield Place is how the layout encourages movement. Guests flowed easily between the bar, lounge areas, and dance floor, creating dynamic pockets of action that we could film without missing the key moments. It meant we didn’t have to manufacture energy or set up complicated scenes—the party told its own story, and we were simply there to catch it as it happened.
As the night deepened and the lights softened, we captured some of our favourite footage: arms around shoulders, heads thrown back in laughter, and the kind of pure, unscripted happiness that makes for the best kind of wedding film.

Behind the Lens – Gear Choices for the Day
While great wedding films are about emotion and storytelling first, the right gear helps us capture those moments beautifully, without ever getting in the way. For Charlotte and Jason’s wedding at Hatfield Place, we used a setup that balanced cinematic quality with a discreet presence—so the day remained focused on them, not the equipment.
📷 Camera Setup
- Sony A7S III and Sony A7 IV gave us stunning 4K footage with incredible performance in natural light, perfect for both the bright gardens and evening reception.
- Lenses like the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 and Sony Carl Zeiss 85mm f/1.8 allowed us to capture intimate expressions without needing to be right in the couple’s space.
🎥 Movement & Stability
- Using the DJI Ronin RS4 gimbal provided fluid motion for the couple shots and their first dance, keeping the footage cinematic without feeling staged.
- For speeches and key ceremony moments, a Manfrotto monopod gave stability while allowing us to stay mobile and responsive.
🎧 Audio Recording
- We prioritised clean, layered audio:
- Groom mic’d with a Zoom F2-BT recorder
- Main microphone wrapped with a Sony TX660
- Direct feed from the PA system into a Tascam X8 for backup
- This setup ensured we captured every speech, every whispered vow, and every burst of laughter with studio-quality clarity.
💡 Lighting
- During the day, Hatfield Place’s natural light did most of the work.
- As evening fell, a subtle Rotolight Neo 3 helped balance the ambient lighting during speeches and on the dance floor—without spoiling the natural atmosphere.
🎥 Why it mattered:
Our gear was chosen not just for technical performance, but to stay as invisible as possible. Couples shouldn’t remember being filmed—they should remember living their day. And thanks to a venue like Hatfield Place, that’s exactly what Charlotte and Jason were able to do.

Final Thoughts – Why We Love Filming at Hatfield Place
